HISTORY OF PEGASUS CONTEMPORARY BALLET

Pegasus Contemporary Ballet, founded by Diana Crowder in 2021, has swiftly emerged as Dallas’s premier contemporary ballet company. Since its inception, the company has presented innovative performances and captivated the Dallas arts scene with both intimate, engaging events and traditional proscenium productions at the Moody Performance Hall.

PCB has celebrated sold-out performances and secured grants from prestigious organizations such as the Dallas Arts District Foundation, TACA, the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, the Moody Fund For The Arts, Texas Commission on the Arts, the Harold Simmons Foundation, and the Eugene McDermott Foundation. Additionally, the company’s commitment to collaboration has resulted in 20 interdisciplinary partnerships with esteemed artists and musicians. Since 2021, the company has commissioned over 30 new works of choreography, including 11 original scores and 5 evening-length productions.

Pegasus Contemporary Ballet has received acclaim from local media outlets, including D Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, The Dallas Voice, Arts and Culture Texas, WRR, KTX, The Dallas Observer, Thrillist, and on NBC5 DFW and Good Morning Texas. Noteworthy productions such as Synergy and The Egg have demonstrated the company’s ability to push artistic boundaries and captivate audiences with impactful storytelling and innovative commissions.

During the 2023/2024 season, Pegasus Contemporary Ballet was invited as one of six organizations to participate in the inaugural cohort of the TACA Arts Accelerator. This nine-month program provided individualized mentorship and education in arts management, culminating in the development of a 3-year strategic plan.

PCB is the only professional company dedicated solely to contemporary ballet in Dallas. In only its fifth season, the company has become an emerging leader in the Dallas arts scene and is poised for continued growth. Pegasus Contemporary Ballet’s mission is to use the classical foundation of ballet to express contemporary perspectives, engage diverse communities, and enrich the human experience.

OUR VISION

Experience ballet as a living contemporary art form that resonates with the humanity of all who encounter it. Artists, audiences and communities flourish through innovative contemporary ballet programming, resonant storytelling, and captivating new work.

OUR MISSION

Pegasus Contemporary Ballet’s mission is to use the classical foundation of ballet to express contemporary perspectives, engage diverse communities, and enrich the human experience.

OUR VALUES

DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Diversity makes us stronger and more thoughtful artists, creators, presenters, and custodians of our artform. Discrimination and injustice are not tolerated in our workplace or in the artistic process of our work.

Promoting a space for a multitude of diverse voices to create and engage with art, particularly in the field of ballet, is at the core of what we value. This includes all skin colors, ethnicities, religions, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We expect our community to hold us to these values and encourage open dialogue about how we can continue to listen, evolve, support, and engage with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, audiences, and communities.

ARTIST COMMITMENT

We affirm our commitment to treat our artists with respect and integrity. We believe that a profession in the arts deserves an environment of creativity, encouragement, honesty, and authenticity. We encourage all who work with the company to embrace these values without fear of consequence or vulnerability. We believe that this ethos creates higher quality artistic output and performances.

At the heart of our programming are four distinct pillars, guided by our mission and vision. Throughout our seasons, you will see:

Immersive

Our immersive performances take place in nontraditional spaces, bringing you face-to-face with the dancers in a setting that transforms the audience’s relationship to the performers. This intimate setting offers a new, and often unexpected, way to engage with ballet.

Narrative

We use dance to harness the age-old power of storytelling as a means of human connection. Our narrative work embraces the complexities of the human condition through characters and plot arcs that captivate audiences. Through the universal language of movement, we tell new stories and timeless classics with a fresh perspective.

Innovative

At the forefront of our vision is a dedication to innovation. We challenge the limits of ballet, exploring new dimensions and expressions within the art form. Our innovative work includes bold commissions from a diverse array of visionary choreographic voices.

Collaborative

Collaboration is where magic truly happens. By partnering with artists from various disciplines—musicians, poets, painters, and more—we create a rich tapestry of artistic expression. These collaborations blend different art forms into a cohesive experience that is greater than the sum of its parts. Each project is a unique fusion of creativity that elevates our performances and offers audiences an experience like no other.
